The Discipline of Being Still

Message Notes

Silence is the most powerful prayer of all and one of the most powerful means of worship. It is an act of faith. It takes a lot of faith to be silent. It’s believing that we don’t have to fill up the space with noise, whether that noise is prayers, liturgy or asking God a million things that God already knows. We don’t have to let music razzle dazzle. It’s saying that where God is present, that’s enough. This is so important when we are anxious and harried. It’s like Jesus speaking to the seas and saying, “Be still,” and like that, the waters become calm like glass. It’s when all the different voices raging in our minds become still. The storms of our emotions come to a halt and we don’t have to say anything or need anything else to happen. It’s like God spoke and said, “Shush,“ and looked you in the eyes and said, “I know.” At that moment, you realize that it’s okay.
All is well.
We just are.
God just is.

“Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations;
I am exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10
